“GET me to the Games on time” might just become the catchcry of thousands of Games visitors come next April (“Delay on Games rail timetable,” GCB, 20/7).
Transport Minister Jackie Trad will be no “Fair Lady” in their eyes when they’re forced to find alternative means to get to the Gold Coast.
In fact, everyone responsible for getting the rail system up and running seems to be coasting along regardless of the approaching chaos.
We need the entire new fleet of rolling stock in service well before next April and a timetable that actually works.
If it doesn’t, the phrase “laughing stock” comes to mind. KEN, GOLD COAST AS I venture toward my 71st year on this poor abused planet I have witnessed many attempts to kill the ABC and each time it has been able limp away.
One can only hope the latest attempt to kill Auntie, with the likes of Pauline Hanson and her government colleagues throwing fuel to the fire, fizzles out. D.J. FRASER, CURRUMBIN
I WAS surprised by the Bulletin article “Muslims are ‘ demonised’,” ( GCB, 20/7).
I expected a balanced approach instead of blaming us for the deeds of radical Muslims.
I don’t condone the pig-headed approach but at least doing this is better than stabbing people, blowing them up and running them down in a truck.
Not placing pressure on the Muslim community that forces them to take a stronger stance against radical Muslims not only shows a total misunderstanding of this issue but a dangerous precedent in fostering terrorism. GRAEME PEARCE, GOLD COAST
DID you know that July 19 was Do Something Day?
On this particular day individuals are encouraged to do something to make the world a better place.
But if you missed it, don’t worry, because we can do something to make the world a better place on any day of the year and it will have the same effect.
One thing we can easily do that will make a huge difference is to switch to a humane and healthy vegan diet.
By doing this we can prevent an enormous amount of needless suffering and make the world a far happier place for animals. JENNY MOXHAM, GOLD COAST
IT’S a pity magistrates don’t treat criminals harshly like former Gold Coast cop Chris Hurley was treated, he was from the old school who didn’t believe in treating violent crims with respect and leniency like today’s cops are expected to do.
No wonder so many cops are resigning, who can blame them? KEN WADE, GOLD COAST
IF YOU consider the Brisbane bus drivers get 27.25 per hour then time and a half to double time on weekends and holidays plus up to $400 on special charters plus other union perks then add the offer of 2.5 per cent, the likelihood of an annual hourly rate could result in an overall hourly figure of at least $65.
