Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

In Estimates hearing this week we learned the new consorting laws aimed to target bikies in Queensland have only secured one conviction since their introduction, that the Commancheros have a “presence” on the Coast. From what you’ve heard, are the bikies

-

AWell, certainly from what we’ve heard and the experience of our MPs down here who are reporting very strongly to me and making statements in the Parliament, we are seeing the bikies back here. We also know that bikies are one of the big sources of methamphetamine. We are seeing increasing numbers of people being arrested on ice charges. Do you have a policy specifically on how to best tackle that issue? We know people who are addicted to ice will do anything for money. So our dob in a dealer program offers a million dollars for additional rewards with Crimestoppers. So we not only need to provide assistance and help for people who are addicts – we

Q Aneed to help them – and we need to go higher up the chain to find the dealers. We introduced it, it was cancelled. We want to bring it back. Police now admit that the decision to strip Coomera of a police district has been a shocking mistake as the Coast’s northern suburbs are facing a crime wave. Your MPs in the north believe a new station and at least 50 more police are needed. What sort of commitments will you make during this election? Well, certainly we will be making some announcements in relation to policing resources. We put in place the Coomera police district, we put the major crime squad here on the Coast. And we continue to support police, firies and ambulance officers.
