MUSICIAN SELLS UNIT WHERE HE MADE SWEET MUSIC

- HANNAH SBEGHEN hannah.sbeghen@news.com.au

POTBELLEEZ frontman Jonny Sonic is spinning off his flashy Surfers Paradise recording pad.

The sky-high studio on the 39th floor in Circle on Cavill has been the perfect holiday home for the DJ since he picked it up in 2013 for $380,000.

But the muso has decided to move to Melbourne in search of more opportunities.

The one-bedroom, onebathroom unit sold last week for the pretty price of $445,000 with the help of Jamie Harrison from Ray White Broadbeach.

But this isn’t just any standard apartment – 1392/9 on Ferny Ave has endured the life of a rock star with wild parties and recording sessions with international artists.

The studio room has an array of platinum and gold framed records, DJ decks, keyboards and a piano.

A stereo with four large speakers occupies the dining table in the living room and sound proof foam lines walls throughout the apartment.

The singer said he and band members Dave Goode and Ilan Kidron had written 16 songs in the apartment.

“I bought the unit in 2013 because I was obsessed with the Gold Coast but I officially moved in two years later,” Sonic said.

“I had just finished touring the world for 13 years and I promised myself that I would take a break at the unit but the music itch came back and so did that lifestyle.”

Sonic said he started playing sets on The Terrace at House of Brews and The Avenue.

“There was one incident where I noticed one female in particular coming to all the shows, she would always try and get our attention and it became pretty distracting.

“One night after playing a gig we headed back to the unit and the man at the reception desk said my girlfriend was waiting in my room for me which was super strange because my girlfriend was DJing overseas at the time.

“I had a terrible feeling it was the crazy girl following our band around. We opened the door and surely enough it was her, butt naked on the bed.”

Sonic called the police.
