FANS KEEN TO ROCK AT SHAKAFEST
Who says rock is dead?
The Big Day Out may be long gone, but that doesn’t mean Gold Coast punters are resting in peace.
The second annual Shakafest at Miami Tavern is bigger than ever, headlined by Australian legends Grinspoon (as part of their comeback tour), together with DZ Deathrays, hip hop legends Butterfingers and dynamic duo Horrorshow.
Finishing the bill are alternative indie band Tired Lion who’ve been making a massive splash on the music scene; rapper Ivan Ooze who’s toured with everyone from Wu Tang Clan, Ice Cube and Seth Sentry; Hemingway; Brisbane indie punk band WAAX and local Gold Coast rock favourites Trapdoor and Radolescent.
The bad news is that the initial ticket allocations have already sold out … but that doesn’t mean that
you can’t join the party. Tickets to the after-party are still on sale, but with acts like Hockey Dad, The Creases and Bris 182, they won’t last long.
Bringing together all things street, skate and music, Shakafest has proven an unshakeable success in our city – and proving that the taste for live music is only getting more intense.
The festival is a reflection of the Gold Coast’s street scene – combining Aussie hip hop, grunge, surf rock, DJs and graffiti art, as well as a massive half pipe with all-round skaters to create the ultimate skate demo.
As a collaboration between Miami Tavern and Wedge Head Events, Shakafest not only smashes together the niche cultures that the Gold Coast is famous for, it also attracts diverse groups of people looking for something new and exciting to experience.
With the combination of skate, surf, art, food and music – the festival is a celebration of the Gold Coast’s unique street scene.
