HERE we go again with another knee-jerk reaction from our nanny state government ( GCB, 23/08).

The theme park industry seems to have got it right for decades without many problems before the tragic loss of four lives.

So now the Government will overhaul the theme park industry but at what cost? Machinery can fail at any time, even after a thorough overhaul.

If the Government was sincere about making things safer for us all, they would make sure Queensland vehicles were roadworthy.

We kill more people in a couple of days on our roads, and it hardly makes the news.

If a theme park operator can be held liable for a mechanical failure, why can’t an unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured driver be charged with manslaughter, they rarely are.

So these days it seems there are no such things as accidents. It’s the blame game. Who can we sue?

The fat cat lawyers are lined up ready for the next class action.

Just like the sun rising every day, accidents will still occur, regarding how much money is spent trying to stop them.

DESPITE overwhelming community support to save Black Swan Lake the council is determined to turn this landmark into an unnecessary carpark ( GCB, 25/8).

There is no evidence of water toxicity and these magnificent animals are thriving.

This is a disgraceful decision causing immense heartbreak.

LAST year the Titans made the final eight. They played for each other. They played for the fans and they played for the coach.

This year, the players have become involved in areas far out of their level of expertise.

This year they have been plagued by injuries … but you don’t sack the coach for this.

The Titans board has become a laughing stock and will become even more so after this latest fiasco.

The club has been held to ransom by one player.

Shame, Titans board.

OUR train services are a disgrace. This latest debacle involving a train travelling with doors still open ( GCB, 25/08) will mean no one will risk riding on QR when the Commonwealth Games come around.

The Premier promised that all the train problems would be fixed when she made Jackie Trad responsible for the situation.

Since that time, it has become worse, with breakdowns, late trains and now trains that are unsafe.

I have children and grandchildren who live in Brisbane.

Up until now I have told them to catch the trains because it is safer than the M1.

With Father’s Day approaching I have now said to them “don’t come to the Gold Coast, it’s too unsafe to get here, I will drive to you”.

The M1 may be unsafe but at least I hold my fate in my own hands as a professional driver, rather than relying on Jackie Trad’s QR.
