Labrador’s grand plans
Tigerstix ready for hockey’s showdown of stars
Among the big names in action will be Brent Livermore, Jason Wilson, Dylan Wotherspoon and Adam Imer for Labrador, and Mark Knowles, Matt Gohdes, Scott Boyde and Robert Bell for Easts.
The Tigerstix are chasing their maiden Brisbane Hockey League premiership – having finished runners-up to Commercial in 2011 – while Easts are hunting their fourth title in five seasons. The latter qualified for the big dance by defeating second-ranked Labrador 1-0 in a tense semi-final a fortnight ago.
Labrador however are the only team to have toppled the minor premiers this season and enter the decider “absolutely full strength” with Brazilian star Imer back after missing the preliminary final against Pine Rivers St Andrews last Saturday.
“I couldn’t have picked from a fuller squad,” Martin said yesterday.
“We’re really confident. We’re the only team that has beaten them this year so we know how to beat them.
“No one is expecting us to win because Easts have only lost one game all year so we don’t feel any pressure. But while we’re respectful of Easts because they are a very good team, we’re extremely confident that we match up.”
Martin also believes his side’s build up has them better placed to win.
“I couldn’t be happier with the preparation coming into a final,” he said.
