US airman to return
MORE than 73 years after crashing into the Pacific Ocean during World War II, a US airman is coming home.
The family of 2nd Lieutenant Donald Underwood got the news last weekend during a meeting with the US Defence Department.
Mr Underwood’s remains were identified among those recently discovered on the Pacific island of Kiribati.
He was aboard a bomber when it crashed.
Mr Underwood will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. His medals include the Distinguished Flying Cross.
