CAFE TRIES A SMOOTHIE MOVE

- EMILY SELLECK

A PALM Beach cafe owner says ‘mermaid bowls’ could overtake acai bowls as the Gold Coast’s favourite healthy snack.

Josh Bailey of Wildernis Cafe and Bar at Palm Beach is launching the magical smoothie bowl today.

“The demand for acai bowls on the Gold Coast is increasing every summer and with an ever growing number of health and animal cruelty conscious customers, acai bowls just aren’t cutting it anymore,” Mr Bailey said.

The bowl is made with frozen banana, coconut, blue spirulina, vanilla and cinnamon powder, home made granola and topped with fresh fruit and chia seeds among other garnishes.

Mermaid bowl creator Sally Wilson said her major breakthrough was the discovery of blue spirulina.

“People know about green spirulina but I don’t think anybody else on the Coast is using this blue product,” she said.

The bowl is available from today for $15.
