Plans for whole new shades of Brown

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

ROAR left-back Corey Brown admits his breakout A-League season will count for little if he fails to take his game to another level in 2017-18.

Brown returns from a virus today when the travelling Roar complete their pre-season with a behind-closed-doors contest against Sydney FC.

The former Aussie under-20 player was a standout last season, with his form and consistency earning him the Gary Wilkins Medal, the club’s player-of-the-year gong.

“It’s good to win awards but that’s in the past and I’ve got to look forward to the season coming up and perform consistently,” the 23-year-old said.

“It’s good to have pressure and expectancy from other people, and yourself, to have a good season and play well.

“I go out there every week expecting a good performance. Each footballer is their own harshest critic.”

Brown intends to add assists and goals to his game as he embraces a tinkering of Brisbane’s formation which will turn him into a real wing-back.

“This season we’ll create a lot more chances hopefully,” he said.
