They sought to understand why a straight man’s close friendship with another male can be more emotionally rewarding than a romantic relationship with a woman.

A bloke’s best mate can leave many women feeling they play second fiddle.

The researchers found that men felt “less judged” by their closest male friend than their wife or girlfriend.
