A 15-YEAR-OLD boy will face Southport Children’s Court today charged with a number of offences after allegedly stealing a car and taking it on a joy ride before smashing into parked cars yesterday.

Police said the Holden Commodore involved in the crash was stolen from a Labrador address early in the morning.

But by 9.30am at Southport the car smashed into a ute parked on Johnston St so hard the vehicle was shunted forward about five metres until it hit a car parked in front of it.

The crash happened in front of Short’s Panel Shop.

Owner Trevor Short said he heard a vehicle screeching in the moments before the crash.

When Mr Short rushed out of his shop he said he saw teens climbing out of the Commodore.

“They came screaming around the corner and then I heard a bang and it was all over,” Mr Short said.

“By the time I got outside they’d got out of the bloody car and they were bloody running off.

“They were younger people.”

A boy and two girls allegedly fled from the scene however police said two girls, aged 14 and 16, were quickly tracked down and taken into custody.

The pair were charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The 15-year-old alleged driver of the car was charged with at least three driving offences and additional charges involving burglary, stealing and fraud.

All three people will face the Southport Children’s Court today.
