DOLPHINS’ INJURIES TO FORCE CHANGES

- CONNOR O’BRIEN connor.o’brien@news.com.au

THE man who skippered Gold Coast to their last Queensland Premier Cricket premiership in 2009-10 will be back in the hot seat today.

Former Bulls leg-spinner Daniel Doran will lead the Dolphins in their two-day match against Wynnum/ Manly today and tomorrow at Bill Pippen Oval.

Doran’s ascension to the captaincy comes as a result of Michael Neser’s Sheffield Shield selection for Queensland as well as a back injury for regular Dolphins skipper Nick Stevens.

Gold Coast coach Damian Wallis said the ongoing injury for Stevens needed rest in order to improve.

“There is no timeline at the moment. The main thing is for him just to get that sorted,” Wallis said.

Stevens’ absence leaves a massive hole in the Dolphins top order, though Cricket Australia XI boom rookie Max Bryant is now back on deck and can provide some strong run-scoring.

Trent Arnold also returns to the side having been set to sit out last weekend’s washout game due to an infected toe.

The Dolphins defeated Wynnum/Manly in a 50-over clash in Round 1 this season, underpinned by a 158-run sixth-wicket partnership between Cameron Francis and Lewin Maladay.

ROUND 8 DOLPHINS TEAM: Daniel Doran (c), Trent Arnold, Xavier Bartlett, Max Bryant, Cameron Francis, Max Houlahan, Matt Kuhnemann, Nathan Lyons, Lewin Maladay, Josh Nelson, Oscar Richardson.
