Down, down on one knee to say ‘aisle do’
WHEN Rodney Reinsma walked his blushing bride Jessica down the aisle, it was something entirely different from every other couple.
A supermarket chain played such a big part in the Gold Coast couple’s lives that they chose to ‘tie the knot’ between the fruit and veggies.
Shoppers looked on as the beaming couple came bustling through the doors of Coles at Hope Island dressed head-totoe in their wedding gear.
In no time Rodney had the best bargain of his life, with his adorable Jessica safely stowed in a shopping trolley.
Rodney, a Coles supermarket store manager, and grocery manager Jessica are a match made in supermarket heaven. The couple met at a Coles in the eastern suburbs of Sydney in 2013 and, much like the Coles marketing jingle, in time Rodney went down down, down on one knee to propose.
But where to wed and how to celebrate?
Inspiration came after moving to the Gold Coast. Four years on, the pair made sure to make a pilgrimage back to the company that brought them together.
“If it wasn’t for Coles we may have never met and I could not imagine life without him. I have a lot to thank the company for,” 31-year-old Jessica said.
“When we moved to the Gold Coast we had no idea where to get married.
“Rodney proposed to me at Sea World and we looked at a few wedding venues but I think Coles was a really unique place and all our friends were over the moon.”
Jessica said the couple had their ceremony at Sanctuary Cove and celebrated with a reception at Palazzo Versace, but a detour along the way to Coles at Hope Island was a big part of proceedings.
“We had customers coming up to us wanting to take a photo, it was really fun.
“The tricky part was getting into the shopping trolley with my massive dress. It had a huge train on it but I managed to jump into a trolley.”
Jessica said she made the first moves all those years ago. “Rodney has always been the sensible and smart one and I’m a bit more wild,” she said. “It was my idea to go to Coles and we did discuss it with the photographers before the big day. It was a very out-there thing to do but I think it was perfect.”
The new Mr and Mrs Reinsma tossed a broccoli bouquet for the bridesmaids and sealed the deal with a kiss in the cereal aisle.
The couple said they didn’t leave empty-handed, buying a cheese platter on the way out.
