New Lizard Man gang

Killer wanted to start bikie chapter

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING CHIEF CRIME REPORTER

LIZARD Man Bronson Ellery was trying start a new chapter of a violent bikie gang on the Glitter Strip before he murdered his ex-girlfriend Shelsea Schilling and took his own life.

Ms Schilling, 20, was killed by Ellery – named the Lizard Man because of his facial tattoos – at his Southport apartment in November 2016. She had taken out a domestic violence order against her former partner and he served jail time for breaching it.

Ellery’s body was found alongside Ms Schilling, having taken a fatal dose of drugs to end his own life after the murder.

It can now be revealed that after his death, police investigated links between Ellery and the notorious Dutchbased Satudarah MC.

“He was with the Bandidos originally but the information was that he was looking to start up a chapter of Satudarah on the Gold Coast with other associates,” a source close to the investigation said.

In October, the Crime and Corruption Commission annual report classed Satudarah as one of the two most prominent new gangs in the state’s southeast.

Several people linked to Ellery were summoned to CCC investigative and intelligence hearings following the Southport slaying.

Satudarah, which means One Blood, was founded in the Netherlands in the late 1990s.

The gang is considered one of the most violent in Sydney with a multicultural base.

Satudarah is understood to have almost 90 chapters worldwide, with chapters beginning to pop up in Australia in 2015.

The Gold Coast Bulletin previously reported Ellery threatened to “chop up” a man in a violent robbery just days before he was found dead in his Johnston St apartment.

Police alleged he and another man stormed a Highland Park house armed with a sawn-off bolt action rifle and machete and threatened two people.

Ellery ordered the raid after being asked by a friend to commit the robbery.

Ellery allegedly sat on a lounge with the two victims and said he would “chop (them) up” or “put a bullet in them” if they contacted police.

The Lizard Man pointed a firearm during the attack and said: “What, don’t you know who I am? I’m Bronson the Solitary Son”.

Six days later he and Ms Schilling were found dead.

A friend who allegedly asked Ellery to commit the Highland Park robbery was one of four people inside the apartment the day Ms Schilling was murdered.

No one has been charged. Under Queensland laws there is no provision for bystander responsibility.

By contrast, in the Northern Territory, if a person fails to rescue someone in need of help they can face a maximum jail sentence of seven years.
