Seeing red at Warhol

-

AUTHORITIES say an intoxicated Dallas woman who was on a first date with a Houston trial lawyer caused at least $300,000 in damage to his art collection, including two Andy Warhol paintings.

Lindy Lou Layman, 29, was arrested on criminal mischief charges after her date with Anthony Buzbee.

Prosecutors say Mr Buzbee, 49, told investigators Ms Layman tore down several paintings and poured red wine on some while yelling obscenities. She also allegedly smashed two $20,000 sculptures. DEMAND has been whipped up for a new kind of iced treat that has vegans purring like the cat who got the cream.

7-Eleven stores across the Gold Coast are the latest businesses to stock vegan ice cream – which uses coconut, soy or almond milk instead of dairy – selling Ben and Jerry’s new dairy-free range.

The increase in demand comes as no surprise to CocoLuscious ice cream coowner Leah Dumo-Heron, who says sales of vegan ice cream have “gone through the roof” in recent months.

“They say one of the biggest trends in food is plantbased eating, it’s the biggest growth in food at the moment,” she said. “And coconut products are growing 30 per cent year on year.”

She said people were also looking to cut out lactose, saying that by the time someone is 60, their ability to consume lactose reduces.

“That’s also driving the market, that’s why we got involved,” she said.

Byron Bay-based Yahmbars vegan ice-cream sandwiches have also expanded, supplying grocery and healthfood stores from Coolangatta to Paradise Point.
