DRINKERS RAISE A CAN TO CORKER OF AN IDEA

- KATE PARASKEVOS

IT’S the new tinnie tipple that will have wine connoisseurs choking on their chardonnay.

BWS has launched winein-a-can as a light and easy alternative to glass bottles at social occasions.

It got the thumbs up on the Gold Coast yesterday, with most people approached by the Bulletin keen to give it a shot.

Currumbin local CassidiRae Gordon said the idea was “pretty cool”.

“I can see how it would be great to take to the beach or drink by a pool, rather than using glass,” she said.

“Who wants to carry a big bottle around when you can just bring a couple of these (cans) to a party?

“I wouldn’t bother pouring it into a glass because that kind of defeats the purpose, so I would probably just put a straw in it and drink it like that.”

Chris Mattes, head of wine at BWS, said it was introduced for “convenience”.

“They don’t break easily and are easily recyclable, making it great for taking to BBQs, social gatherings and outdoor special events,” he said. “It allows the wine lover the chance to experiment and try different wines across different nights to match food without worrying about throwing away half an unused bottle.”

He said each can contained two to two-and-ahalf standard drinks and recommended the wine be poured into a glass to enjoy.

The range includes the twice Gold Medal-winning Take it to the Grave Shiraz, Elephant in the Room Chardonnay and other varieties priced from $5 to $8.
