SPINNER’S AFTER A MIGHTY CONVERSION TARGET

- TERRY WILSON

FORMER Australian under19 cap Matt Kuhnemann wants to convert handy figures into big-wicket hauls as he chases higher honours.

The Gold Coast Dolphins left-arm spinner will turn out for his club today on the final day of the Brisbane Premier Grade match against Sunshine Coast at Bill Pippen Oval.

Then tomorrow he is off to Sydney to play for a Queensland Second XI side in a Futures League fixture against NSW at the Blacktown International Sportspark from Monday to Thursday.

Converting a couple of wickets into five or six-fors is the go for Kuhnemann.

I’M PRETTY HAPPY WITH THE WAY IT’S GOING BUT I WANT TO CONVERT MY FIGURES FROM A COUPLE INTO FIVE OR SIX-FORS

And, if can achieve that at Blacktown he may be in with a chance of grabbing a placed in the Queensland Bulls side for a couple of Sheffield Shield matches.

“I’m bowling well lately, the ball is coming out nicely,” Kuhnemann said.

“I’m pretty happy with the way it’s going but I want to convert my figures from a couple into five or six-fors.”

If that happens the 21year-old Kuhnemann could get a call for Shield matches because the Bulls play on a couple of spin-friendly wickets in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Kuhnemann and the Dolphins have a job to do against Sunny Coast.

The Scorchers are to resume at 5-263 today and no doubt the weather will influence their captain whether to bat on or declare.

“We haven’t had much heavy rain, just light showers, but the forecast doesn’t look good,” Kuhnemann said.

“That might prompt Coast to declare early but it will be interesting because the new Dukes (balls) we’re using would be bowler friendly if it’s overcast.”

Coach Damian Wallis said the Pippen Oval wicket block has been covered since Thursday.
