Hill’s wishing Mosserati luck

- RHYS O’NEILL GOLD COAST

THERE’S just one problem with Mosserati’s longshot hopes of an almighty Aquis Park upset today.

“I’d like to see him paying 40/1,” trainer Bruce Hill laughed of his galloper’s $21 odds.

Behind the jokes of an unlikely Gold Coast payday, Hill remains hopeful in the $15,000 aquisfarm.com Plate (900m).

The three-year-old’s form is both modest and minimal, with a dead last from eight at Ballina a fortnight ago sandwiched between a couple of decent trials.

“He would have improved a fair bit from his last run,” Hill said.

“He has got a bit of talent and has shown us all the right things all along.

“He’s been quite a nice horse and what he has shown me he’ll make the grade.”

Hill is predicting Mosserati to ultimately stretch his legs over a longer distance.

“I think that 900m might be a bit short for him,” he said.

“I think he might end up at about 1200m, but I’m still expecting him to run well.”

Jockey Matthew Palmer will take the reins in a sprint expected to be a one-horse race.

Deep Lead ($2.60) comfortably sits at the top of punters’ thinking, with Mosserati last on Ladbrokes odds.

Hill, though, is shooting for the sky in the long term.

“Hopefully a lot of wins,” he said when asked of his runner’s prospects.

“For this race, for 900m you don’t give them instructions, it’s just down to the one with the most luck.

“Hopefully we can have a bit of luck.”

Today’s eight-race card at Aquis Park will feature the $40,000 Benchmark 80 Handicap, with Desmon’s Pride ($4.20) the favourite.
