Sherriff still adjusting

But gun Helensvale bowler tips top finals form

WORLD ranked Aron Sherriff has conceded that it has taken him longer than he expected to adjust to life as an adopted Queenslander with Club Helensvale.

It was only late last year that Sherriff took up an offer from Helensvale and relocated his young family to the Gold Coast.

The recruiting of the 2018 Commonwealth Games triples and fours selection gave the Hawks a powerful look, especially when Sherriff was chosen to lead a team of Kelsey Cottrell, Des Cann and Mark Casey in the Premier League Queensland series.

But things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the crack team which comprised three Commonwealth Games reps and a dual 2017 Australian champion (Cann).

Sherriff, 31, has played six of seven rounds for the record of one win and a draw.

This has resulted in Hawks selectors switching their teams around and last weekend Sherriff played with Cottrell, Sam White and Andrew Howie in his rink.

The 2016 Australian Open singles champ agreed his touch has not been where he wants it.

Asked if he has been surprised by the standard of the PLQ Sherriff said: “Not really, I didn’t think it was going to be easy. I suppose personally I haven’t been in the form I want to be in.

“It was a big move coming here to a new club and it has taken a bit longer than I expected to get going.

“But my form is getting better and I should be back at my best by the finals.”

Today Helensvale host second-placed Enoggera in one of a number of crunch eighth round match-ups.

Across town defending champions Broadbeach are taking on ladder leaders Hamilton on the Commonwealth Games greens.

Elsewhere Coast clubs South Tweed are at home to Booval and Tweed Heads are on the road to Belmont.
