Lock her in for much bigger surf ambitions

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

TWEED Qualifying Series surfer Alyssa Lock admits there is a bigger target in her sights than the Australian Boardriders Battle series final this weekend.

Though she insists the team event is a high priority – she represents Snapper Rocks – the QS6000 competition the following weekend is the No.1 target.

Both events will take place in Newcastle, the same location where Lock just won a Pro Junior.

“It’s all pretty clumped up in Newcastle which is good because I get used to the waters and hopefully I get used to the banks and just watch how they work,” she said.

“To do well in the QS6000 would probably be my main goal out of the three comps.”

Beyond that, she is hoping for a chance to compete in the Roxy Pro next month on the Gold Coast.

“Yeah hopefully I get in it in some way,” Lock said.

“Last year winning the trials was probably my best result to date so I mean it would be good to win it again and maybe even go a little bit further into Round 3 or Round 4.”

Snapper has traditionally done well in the Australian Boardriders Battle and Lock feels they are well placed to contend again.

“We have got so many good surfers in the club so we’re a pretty good team and pretty strong so hopefully we do well.”

The final will be held today and tomorrow.
