WHAT a disgraceful selective outrage of moralistic values we see over Barnaby Joyce’s marriage breakdown and his re-partnering.

Where is the decency of “A fair go mate”?

Many of the moralistic bellowers have themselves had broken marriages and others un-exposed affairs. Let’s see what troubled waters evolve for the accusers in future years, those who shout the loudest often fall the hardest – being judgmental is a very dangerous and foolish act.

There were 46,604 divorces granted 2016, maybe you could be one of them in future years. Where was the same press outrage over member of the ALP when they had affairs and broken marriages?

It disgraces a nation to see such little tolerance and the press flogging of a decent man who in tough times needs support to overcome a sad event.

We express our best wishes for the happiness of future years for both Barnaby, his wife and family, and his new partner who is soon to be a mother and give Australia a beautiful new citizen. The sun will always rise even after the worst storm.

G J MAY, FORESTDALE

HAS Barnaby Joyce done anything that is uncommon? Have any other Members of a Parliament been guilty of “conduct unbecoming”? (GCB, 15/2).

After all, Malcolm Fraser was once literally caught with his trousers around his ankles. Precedents have been set so this fairly popular guy needs to be left alone to do what he does best. Promote LNP policies. KEN JOHNSTON, ROCHEDALE SOUTH

BLACK Swan Lake is of benefit to all animals. The horses and the animals in and around the lake were living side by side quite harmoniously as you would expect.

How ironic – and sad – that the horses, in their captivity in the stables, have had to witness and hear the sounds of earth moving equipment just metres outside of their stables dumping dirt on their mates?

The horses are surely suffering too – in this stifling heat and ingesting the enormous amounts of dust that is being churned up.

There is no “wetting down” of the area as you normally see on sites. Race horse owners love their animals? I don’t think so – the horses are victims of greed in this awful saga.

Any animal lover or vet would be appalled to witness what is happening at Black Swan Lake. CONCERNED RESIDENT

MANY of us are finding the callousness of our civic leaders hard to stomach and sickened by the sanctioned savagery happening before our eyes at a popular local green space.

Any wonder, mental illness and suicide are on the rise when those

in positions of authority snuff out our voiceless weakest and gloat that might is right.

To the many reflecting residents, ridiculed by those in positions of power, who found spiritual and emotional refreshment from visiting Black Swan Lake and enjoying the wildlife, your distress is acknowledged and recognised. You are not alone.

CHRIS, SURFERS PARADISE

I AM wondering how road closures can be happening virtually every day that are NOT listed on the Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council road closure websites or maps?

Almost every day Marine Parade between George and Graham Streets is closed off for building works at Blue Water, 174 Marine Parade. Also Johnstone St, Bilinga is often closed off too, with nothing on these websites.

Do developers now own the roads too? They already operate power tools regularly from 5.30am, and are building developments that DO NOT meet the City Plan for height, density, setbacks and car parking.

Who is this city run for, developers or the people?

If this is illegal activity, I expect severe fines for those involved in this repeated law breaking.

I invite council inspectors to come along any day and you will witness these unauthorised road closures.
