GINGER GEM STANDS OUT IN PUSSY GALORE SALE

JACINTA the cat is pretty unimpressed she is still at the shelter.

But that could all change with the RSPCA’s $29 pet sale this weekend.

In a bid to reduce the number of animals in their care so they can look after new ones, RSPCA shelters and adoption centres across the nation have slashed the adoption fees of all pets.

Adoption and foster care co-ordinator for the Gold Coast, Melissa Martin, said the sale began yesterday and they expected more at the Miami adoption centre today looking for a companion.

“We are, however, a cat adoption centre, so we only have cats and kittens,” she said, adding those interested in a dog would need to visit the Brisbane centres.

She said Jacinta, a rare female ginger cat, was still looking for her new home.

“Ninety per cent of ginger cats are male, so she’s a rare one, she’s a gem,” she said.

“She is such a sweetheart, she came to us as a stray.”

She said Jacinta would be best suited to a home with quieter children.

Ms Martin said there were 40 cats and kittens available at the Miami centre and Pet Barns across the Gold Coast were also participating.

Queensland RSPCA has about 600 animals available for adoption.

The Miami store is open today, but closed tomorrow.

The sale will run until Sunday.
