SERIOUS CARB LOADING MAKES TRAINING FUN

-

The Gold Coast Triathlon is one of our city’s signature sporting events, but you don’t need to be an athlete to train like a pro.

Oh, and by ‘training’, we mean carb loading.

Set a personal best in indulgence by settling in for a serious session at Gemelli Italian.

For those at elite level, prove you’re the carb king by bowling over a pizza bowl.

“It’s a bowl made out of woodfired pizza dough, then we fill it with gnocchi,” Gemelli co-owner James Carney said.

“Then once it’s filled we bake it in the oven, so you kind of eat the bowl at the same time.

“The best option is to cut it up but that takes a bit of the fun out of it, so you’ve got to eat the gnocchi faster than the bowl.” But other than being a delicious concept, the bowl has an element of practicality too.

“It’s a great option when you want pizza and pasta at the same time,” Mr Carney said.

“We thought it’d be best for sharing but people have mainly been coming in and eating it by themselves.” Champions.
