Just keep on moving

Be creative to get fit, says model

MARATHON runner, model and mother to dog Max, Gold Coast fitness fanatic Danielle Byrnes answers some questions about her training regimen, and shares her top tips on exercise and how she juggles it all.

Tell me about the Gold Coast Marathon and your recent ambassadorship?

I have been an ambassador for the marathon since 2017.

I was brought in to provide training content and fitness guidance for those who are doing the marathon and also to encourage people who want to but aren’t sure.

It is a big time investment. I love doing the half marathon because it’s such a big time investment and hard on the body. It’s my fourth or fifth half marathon and I’m just trying to beat my time.

I was brought in to encourage people to sign up and help them along the way with training ideas and tips.

What do you most love about running?

Running is more my meditation. I clear my head by running, I love the fact that it keeps you fit and in shape while improving my mental health.

Is there anything you’ve had to give up or add to your daily life during training for the marathon.

I used to love going to boxing classes and the gym. But it begins to get hard to run faster when you’re gaining more muscle mass, so I just stick to pilates classes and running six days a week. For women who are interested in becoming more active, what three top tips can you give them?

Do something you enjoy. If you don’t actually love what you are doing, the chances are you won’t keep with it. Walk your dog, walk through the shops, just keep moving.

Be creative. You don’t have to pay for fitness so you just need to be resourceful like mowing the lawns, squatting with your baby, or cleaning the house.

Train with friends. Make arrangements around keeping moving and staying active, start small with replacing your coffee date with a walk.

The Gold Coast Marathon takes place on June 30-July 1. See goldcoastmarathon.com.au
