JAMAICAN ATHLETES WOW ON TRACK

-

COULD Gold Coast Games organisers have asked for a better advertisement as they attempt to sell tickets to track and field events?

Members of the MVP track club based in Jamaica trained at the Sports Super Centre yesterday, displaying all the swagger and personality for which Caribbean athletes have become famous.

Dual Olympic gold medallist Elaine Thompson sported bejewelled braids and hurdler Megan Simmonds showed off her dance moves.

But it was the shirtless swagger of sprinters Julian Forte, Ronald Levy and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jonathan Farinha that won over plenty.

After training on the track sans shirts, the trio returned for a media opportunity fully clothed but stripped off for the camera when asked, much to the delight of a couple of women leaving fitness classes at the Runaway Bay centre.

The pair called their approval from the car park, while a couple of members of the media pack posed for selfies with the athletes – their reward for waiting more than two hours for an interview.

But don’t think for a minute the lads were uncomfortable.

Forte is a picture of concentration when racing and training but has reserved time for one of his other passions while in Australia – social media and taking shirtless selfies.

“I’m always on social media … the only time I’m not on social media is when I’m training,” he said.

“You can follow me @julianforte on Instagram.

“I need to get a picture with my shirt off.”
