BOND’S SPARTAN

FROM TV TO OUR RUGBY FIELDS

- CONNOR O’BRIEN connor.obrien@news.com.au

YOU might just recognise Bond University recruit Corbin Kiernan.

The talented centre has been on television as a contestant on Australian Spartan, for which the finale will air on Monday.

Though tight-lipped about how the final pans out, Kiernan feels the team element of the show put him in good stead against others who had come from more individualised athletic backgrounds.

“Definitely very different in some ways,” he said of the experience. “It was good it was a team thing, which is what I am used to.”

The 25-year-old has a long history of rugby league on the Gold Coast, including playing Intrust Super Cup for Burleigh, but is now trying to stake a claim for a Super Rugby berth.

Kiernan followed his Bears stint with two years in France, first in league and then in union before returning to link with Queensland Premier Rugby club Bond.

“I wanted to stick to union and they have got awesome facilities and good coaches,” he said.

The next step in his Super Rugby dream is to have a strong enough season to progress into the National Rugby Championship spotlight.

Following their Round 1 loss to Wests, Bond will look to strike back after the Easter break when they take on GPS next Saturday at Ashgrove. GPS convincingly beat Bond in a trial match two weeks ago but Kiernan said his side “have improved so much since then”.
