Anderson says she’s happy to take on Cyborg

-

GOLD Coast fighter Megan Anderson has laughed off suggestions she is running from a showdown with UFC megastar Cris Cyborg, saying: “I’m not running from anyone.”

Anderson wants to be catapulted straight into a fight with Cyborg – aka The Most Dangerous Woman on the Planet – should she win her UFC debut on the undercard of Aussie middleweight champ Rob Whittaker in June.

Already ranked among the world’s best female fighters, Anderson is finally set to make her first Octagon appearance against American Holly Holm at UFC 225 in Chicago.

The announcement ends a wait of 17 months for the Australian, who was scheduled to debut against Cyborg in California last July but withdrew, citing “personal reasons”.

“And because of that, some people might not understand what was going on,” Anderson said. “But I’m not running from Cris. That fight, I love it. My team loves it.

Anderson said she had handled more than a year of running taunts.

“It took me a long time to get used to that type of negativity,” Anderson said.

“Of people saying, ‘oh, you’re ducking Cris’ and so on.

“But I’m at a point in my life now where people can say what they like. I don’t care. I know what really happened.

“There were some things that prohibited me from taking the (Cyborg) fight, things that were out of my control.”
