1 FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
These workers are responsible for leading people in exercises and keeping participants motivated and moving.
About 7300 more fitness instructors are expected to be needed across Australia between 2017 and 2022, Federal Government data finds.
More than a quarter (26.4 per cent) of people in this line of work are aged 25 to 34. Fewer than one in 10 are older than 54.
The overwhelming majority (71.6 per cent) hold a vocational qualification as their highest level of education. Almost half (48.8 per cent) have a certificate III or IV.
The Certificate III in Fitness takes about nine weeks of full-time study plus time spent on practical placement.
Units cover topics from maintaining equipment to conducting fitness appraisals to instructing exercise for older clients.
PayScale reports salaries range from $30,000 to $61,000.
2 FURNITURE REMOVALIST
When people move into a new home, they can require help with transporting larger and/ or heavier items, such as fridges or couches.
Removalists load and unload furniture and other items into trucks and trailers and transport it between locations.
No formal qualification is required but if workers are driving the truck they need the appropriate driver’s licence, such as a medium rigid licence.
An extra 700 workers are expected to be needed in this field in the five years to May, 2022. PayScale reports wages range from $34,000 to $59,000.
3 MOTOR MECHANIC
Practical people who want to get motorists back on the road and moving again after their vehicle breaks down might be suited to a career as a mechanic.
About 1500 more workers are expected to be needed in the five years to May, 2022.
Of the current workforce, the average age is 34 – younger than the all-industry average of 40 – and men make up more than 99 per cent of workers.
The standard qualification is a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, which is delivered as part of an apprenticeship.
PayScale reports salaries range between $31,000 and $68,000.
