Ex-chippie finds acting is a Picnic
WHEN James Hoare isn’t living in the US and working with television stars like Natalie Dormer and Yael Stone he can be found helping out at his parents’ farm near Cairns.
And now the carpenterturned-actor is getting ready for the world to see his newest work, playing Albert Crundall in Foxtel miniseries Picnic At Hanging Rock.
“A lot of my stuff has not been picked up, so this is the first project of mine that will really be seen by the public,” he said.
“It’s really rare to be part of something that’s expected to do so well.”
He said the show, based on the 1967 Australian novel, had already been picked up by network channels in the UK, France, Germany and New Zealand.
“Working with these actors has been excellent,” he said.
“I had one scene with Natalie Dormer, but I ended up on a horse just riding past her, so there’s no dialogue there.”
He said there was already Hollywood buzz around the show, which would help out with his future as an Aussie actor trying to make it in the US.
“I’m going back to New York next week,” he said.
“I left Cairns exactly 10 years ago. The Cairns Post actually did a story about me going to NIDA.”
As for the show, James said it was one of a kind. “I’ve seen the first episode, and it was nothing like what I thought it would be,” he said.
“Yael described it as a sugar hit.
“People remember the movie, but this is different. It’s bright in colour and dark in tone.
“I’m sure it’ll blow everybody’s hair back.”
