Trainer expects plenty of Sizzle

- TOM BOSWELL GOLD COAST

TRAINER Angela Plumb won’t need to worry about running into any Group-class horses again when improving filly Sugar Sizzle makes her return to racing at the Gold Coast today.

The last time the twoyear-old ran was a week before the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January when she placed fourth behind eventual $2 million 2YO Classic winner Sunlight, Terminology and Paquirri.

All three have won or run in Group races since with Sunlight also placing third in the Golden Slipper.

Sugar Sizzle, who was an emergency for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, will have a first-up run in today’s QTIS Two-Year-Old Class 3 Plate (900m) at Aquis Park.

Gold Coast-based Plumb said Sugar Sizzle had returned more mature after her spell and she expected the Aquis-owned filly to race well in the five-horse field today.

“She has definitely come back a lot stronger,” Plumb said of the filly who won second-up over 900m at Murwillumbah in her initial racing campaign.

“She has grown a bit and I expect her to go really well (today). I was really happy with her last run.

“When she didn’t make it into the final field for the Magic Millions she was ready for a spell anyway.”

Plumb said Sugar Sizzle had some pre-training at Aquis Farm before returning to the stables last month.

She said she was in no rush to step Sugar Sizzle up in grade and would let the Sizzling filly dictate her path.

“We are not going to be targeting the really difficult races,” Plumb said.

“It would be nice to take her across the border again to NSW where she can get the BOBS (Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme) bonus.”
