Ormeau’s big boost in hunt for key victory
ORMEAU have welcomed back 2017 skipper Mohi Kendrick as their bid for a droughtbreaking Rugby League Gold Coast win gathers momentum.
The Shearers went within a whisker of upsetting Southport last Sunday, falling 28-26, and are striving to go one better on the road against Bilambil tomorrow. The Jets have lost six straight since thrashing Ormeau in Round 1.
Kendrick’s presence in the front-row is a major boost.
“He is coming into some good form,” said Shearers coach Julius Kuresa. “He pulled out before the season started just with outside commitments but he has been back onboard now for a couple of weeks and is showing some great leadership.”
The club’s overhaul has been clear to see for the few returning players from last year’s horror season.
“They definitely see the difference and the culture that we are trying to build,” Kuresa said. “What is frustrating at times is that there is a better team there but the results are similar to last year but what I have said is just to be patient. It does take a bit of time to turn things around but they are enjoying the new environment.”
That improvement has been reflected in support, with fans at their Brien Harris Oval home base finding their voice in the Southport thriller. “They were very vocal, they were trying to push us through to get that win,” Kuresa said.
