Teamo ‘lost rag over clothes’
JACQUES Teamo allegedly punched his flatmate in the head and kicked a $170,000 Mercedes-Benz last month because the man was wearing his clothes and a gold watch.
The 48-year-old former bikie enforcer spotted Matthew Smith, 29, at the Pacific Fair shopping centre last month wearing the items when he approached the younger man in a carpark demanding them back, the Southport Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
“I should stab you, c***,” Teamo allegedly told Smith.
During the altercation Teamo allegedly kicked the luxury car causing up to $10,000 worth of damage.
Just over a week later, Taskforce Maxima detectives swooped on Teamo’s Robina home where they charged him with assault
occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage and two drug offences.
Police allege Teamo was armed with a knife during the assault because he told officers: “I should have ripped into him at Pacific Fair”.
Teamo ended up in Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre following the raid, which is where his most recent troubles really began.
On May 21, Teamo was reportedly in a unit with one prison officer to 36 prisoners. A group of those men were allegedly Mongol bikies.
Teamo was allegedly set upon by up to seven Mongols who bashed him with furniture and a toaster so badly he had to be taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. The prison unit was sent into lockdown.
Yesterday, Teamo appeared in court via video link with his right hand bandaged and successfully applied for bail. Magistrate Don MacKenzie granted Teamo bail to his girlfriend’s Regents Park address on the condition he not approach Mr Smith or any prosecution witnesses, among other conditions.
“I’m sure you’re aware anything you’re likely to do will be under scrutiny,” Magistrate MacKenzie said.
Outside court, Teamo’s girlfriend wiped tears of joy from her eyes and his defence lawyer Chris Hannay, of Hannay Lawyers, said time away from the Gold Coast would be good for him. “He’s now got an opportunity to get out of the Gold Coast area, he has a good lady now who will look after him hopefully and help him get through the issues he’s got at the moment,” Mr Hannay said.
“He’s got some psychological issues that he’s coping with.”
Mr Hannay said it was difficult to make contact with his client while he was having a “horrendous time” behind bars.
“Jacques has had an issue with people trying to assassinate him for a long time and every time he’s put in a position like this there’s an altercation,” Mr Hannay said.
“They should have known better.
“There’s been no contact over the past couple of weeks, we’ve tried on a couple of occasions to see him but there has been excuse after excuse.
“Whether that’s internal issues with the prison I don’t know. It hasn’t been able to give us any satisfaction about the whole issue.”
Teamo has a committal mention listed for June 19.
