TROUBLES IN SYDNEY

-

Q

How hard was it playing with the Wanderers when your family was still here on the Coast?

A

It’s been well-documented that I’ve lived away from family the last two seasons. It’s really taken its toll on family life. Once I’m at training or in the game, I’m very strong like that mentally that once I cross that line I’m OK but when you finish a game or finish training then that’s the hardest period because I am became probably a little bit too consumed in football … because I’m not coming home and doing my normal routine with the family. In terms of performance, the last two years I’ve played full seasons and I felt like my performances have been good. It’s just mentally draining and obviously my wife, Chantelle, suffered a lot in the last two years so that was a big sacrifice for us.

Q

Have you given any thought to when you may call it a day or have you got more to give?

A

Physically I feel great and I’ve had no major injuries towards the end of my career. A lot of people retire because of that fact but I got through the last A-League season fine. It’s just more mentally, I’m quite burnt and pretty drained from living away from the family for two years and it takes its toll. I really don’t have an answer and I’m hoping that something will come up in the horizon and that’s why I’m trying to be as active as possible. I wouldn’t even mind getting some work experience outside of football. I’d love to push football here. I just want to make sure it’s heading in the right direction.
