Leading Coast artist apologises for new album memories
AMY Shark has apologised in advance if the material on her upcoming debut album Love Monster leaves anyone feeling hurt.
“I feel a little sick knowing so many people are waiting to listen to this album,” she said.
“There are songs that may trigger some memories in people who were once close to me and I’m sorry if it hurts you.”
Shark wasn’t the only person thrilled to share one of her favourite tracks from the album — a dream-come-true collaboration with Mark Hoppus, from Blink-182 — with her fans this week.
The song, Psycho, is one of 14 tracks on Love Monster, due for release on July 13. A few hours after Shark shared a link to Psycho on Twitter on Thursday, Russell Crowe retweeted it to his more than 2.5 million followers.
“Hey. Psycho by @AmySharkMusic featuring @markhoppus” Crowe wrote.
Psycho not only features Hoppus on vocals — he co-wrote and produced the track, recorded at the iconic Sound City Studios in LA.
“Every time I play the song I have a dirty grin on my face. Is this actually on my debut album?” Shark said. In fact, Shark was so thrilled to work with Hoppus, she called the release of Psycho “the greatest day of my life”.
“I’m now going to go drink heavily somewhere,” she said in another Tweet on Thursday.
Love Monster saw Shark co-write with “names’’ including Joel Little (Lorde, Khalid, Broods) on Never Coming Back and Bleachers front man Jack Antonoff, who co-wrote and produced All Loved Up.
“It got me out of my comfort zone, out of my own little writing world,” she said.
“To have people give you feedback as you’re doing it, and they’re not just anyone, I was lucky to be able to skip straight to working with the big dogs.
“And they’re the big dogs because they know exactly what your strengths are and what you might be struggling with. It was awesome.”

Shark’s latest single, I Said Hi, has now clocked up 15 million streams globally and 1.5 million video views while Adore has surpassed 60 million streams globally.
Shark will return to the US and Canada on September 21 after she wraps her biggest-ever headline tour with a hometown show at NightQuarter on September 8.
While she’ll play two shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney after the first tour dates in those cities sold out, tickets are still available for the NightQuarter gig.
