Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

Swell and good for Classic end to series

-

ORGANISERS are optimistic of strong swells which should deliver a fitting end to the Queensland Championship Circuit on the Gold Coast.

Tomorrow’s annual Alley Classic competition is the third and final stop in the 2018 series and will see some of Queensland’s best open men’s and open women’s surfers battle it out for a Queensland title.

It will also deliver prizemoney and a wildcard spot in the WSL Championship Tour 2019 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials at Snapper Rocks.

The event continues to attract some of the biggest names in Queensland, including men’s QCC ratings leader and 2018 MP classic champion Lincoln Taylor (North Stradbroke).

“What Surfing Queensland is doing is so good for these guys, the QCC really fills the gap between Pro Juniors and the Qualifying Series events so it’s great for their confidence,” said Taylor.

Taylor is among some of the top names competing this weekend, with Jack Reginato (Alexandra Headland) trailing closely behind.

Sunshine Coast Pro champion and Gold Coast local Thomas Woods (Elanora) is a crowd favourite and definitely a threat – further tightening the competition.

In the women’s division, a Coast v Coast situation is developing with Gold Coast local Ellie Brooks (Elanora) leading the ratings after her win at the QCC Sunshine Coast Pro earlier in the month – and the Sunshine Coast’s Sasha Baker hot on Brooks’ heels.

Past WSL Championship Tour surfer Dimity Stoyle (Buderim) will be another one to watch tomorrow.
