RAIDERS’ GLORY DAYS

-

Q

It really was an incredible squad the Green Machine had in those days. A

I could tell you a story about all of them. Mal and I (pictured), we ended up playing about 12 years together at Souths and down there.

We had a really special relationship, combination and he’d be the standout but when you play a lot of footy with different guys you tend to be mates in different ways.

Ricky (Stuart), Laurie Daley, Clydey (Bradley Clyde), Steve Walters, Gary Coyne, they’re all good mates but the hard thing about Canberra is we don’t live there. We all vacated and did our own thing.

It’s a bit of a transient place unless you are from there originally. That’s why it is really difficult for the Raiders at times to get a good side together.

It’s not the sort of place people have on the top of the wish list to play footy but if you do end up there, you realise how good it is to be there tucked away from the madness of Sydney. Q

Are you still a Raiders man at heart these days? And if so, can they make a charge towards the finals now that Josh Hodgson is back on deck? A

Yep, absolutely and yeah I think they will get on a roll. I was really impressed with him (Hodgson against Wests Tigers), they looked sharper. I think we have to take into account though that the Tigers had an off night.
