SAUCY FUN PUTS THE GLITTER INTO STRIP
LADIES and gentlemen, step right up for what could very well be the hottest show ever to play HOTA.
Home of the Arts is currently hosting the world-premiere season of cabaret circus creators Strut & Fret’s brand new romp, Deluxe Deluxe.
The brains trust behind the runaway hit adult romp Blanc de
Blanc and Madonna’s Rebel Heart tour opened their saucy, subversive new show in HOTA’s Paradise Showroom during the week.
Deluxe Deluxe director Scott Maidment said the showroom’s intimate setting – “down in the bowels of HOTA” – was a perfect fit for Deluxe Deluxe’s underground vibe and acts that run the gamut from saucy to silly.
He said Deluxe Deluxe had been created with the Gold Coast in mind, bending the finest traditions of vaudeville into signature Strut & Fret shape with a variety of acts.
“This one is a little bit more of a
cross between a revue and vaudeville and variety,” Maidment said.
“With this type of show, you’re as much a part of the action and the fun as the performers.”
In an increasingly risk-averse PC world, Strut & Fret’s saucy mix of circus and comedy is as courageous as it is creative.
“I think audiences know they can trust us with their entertainment dollar,” Maidment said.
Unlike most productions that bump into HOTA, Deluxe Deluxe has set up camp for a month.
“I’ve got a great cast from overseas – a lot who have never been to Australia before,” Maidment said.
“Of course there will be circus and plenty of sexy bodies to look at and skills to enjoy – nothing that takes itself too seriously.”
Maidment is still bowled over by the rapturous response Strut & Fret’s
Blanc de Blanc spectacle enjoyed on the Coast during its two sold-out Spiegeltent seasons at Broadbeach and Southport.
“The audience responded so well. It was pretty cool and encouraging.”
