Easing E tradewind swell hangs in around 2ft+ across the region on Saturday before fading to small/ tiny levels by Sunday. A strong rise in S swell follows, initially building across northern NSW on Sunday ahead of a peak in S groundswel­l on Monday and Tuesday; holding potential for windy 4 to 8ft conditions across northern NSW coasts, while wrapping at anywhere from 2 to 4ft across southern Queensland breaks under moderating southerly winds.

TODAY

E tradewind swell sets up to 2 to 3ft exposed QLD breaks, slowly fading during the day. Grading smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: WNW to NW, tending WSW and freshening to 15 to 25 knots during the arvo.

TOMORROW

Residual E swell around 2ft exposed beaches, fading later. Superseded by rising, directiona­l S swell picking up from 1 to 3ft across northern NSW beaches towards 2 to 4ft during the afternoon. Expect smaller surf in the 1ft+ range along the points and inside the bays. WIND: Early WSW to SW 15 to 30 knots tending S 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon.

MONDAY

Potential for large S groundswel­l ranging from 5 to 6ft+ northern NSW southern exposures, rising to 6 to 8ft+ during the afternoon. Wrapping at 3 to 6ft open beaches with size depending on exposure. Southern QLD: 2 to 4ft exposed beaches, grading to 2ft or so open breaks and smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: Early WSW to SW tending SSW, then SSE 10 to 20 knots.

TUESDAY

Solid S swell slowly eases under moderating southerly winds. Sets to a solid 5 to 7ft+ exposed northern NSW beaches early, settling during the afternoon. Grading to 2 to 4ft exposed QLD beaches and down to a smaller 1 to 2ft inside the points and bays. WIND: Early SW to SSW inshore tending S to SSE around 15 to 20 knots.

WEDNESDAY

Easing SSE groundswel­l up to 3 to 5ft exposed breaks, exposed northern NSW beaches. Grading to 2 to 4ft exposed QLD beaches and down to a smaller 1 to 2ft+ inside the points and bays. WIND: SW to SSW 5 to 15 knots early, tending SSE to SE 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon.
