FEELING CHIPPER

-

Q

You were part of the Tour de France when drug-cheat Lance Armstrong was in his prime, what was it like seeing the performances of his team?

A

I was amazed at how they were after a day of racing.

Q

You started a foundation in Townsville to help young cyclists before winning your farewell race, named after you, there in 2008. How special was that?

A

It was great. It was good to have my farewell race in the city my wife (Belinda) was born in. It meant a lot to me. All my friends were there who I had raced with for years. It was a pretty good event and good for the town too.

Q

You spent 2010 to 2012 managing a team in Europe before working as a coach in Phuket, Thailand. What was it like there?

A

I enjoyed that. I was taking big groups of people that came to the resort to stay and train. I would take them on rides and basically coach people along the way. It’s something I hadn’t done before and It was pretty satisfying.

Q

You recently opened up a fish and chip shop with your wife Belinda in Mermaid Waters called Two Wise Fish. How did that come about?

A

Belinda is the third generation of her family to do it. Her father and grandfather both had fish and chip shops, they had 17 of them at one stage. We thought it would be nice to have a small family business close to home and we liked the centre it was in.
