CHASING A NEW SCALP

-

Q

As you mentioned, Helensvale play Colleges today. The side’s belief must have jumped after drawing with Surfers last month?

A

That’s probably the key word which I have come to realise over the last couple of months. There seems to be a lot of self-doubt within the players at the club in terms of when you look at Surfers and Colleges, in their eyes, being extremely strong and almost unbeatable.

It’s something that has held the boys back and drawing with Surfers the other week, there has been a breakthrough there that I have noticed in the body language of the players on the back of that so I’m certain that there will be a lot more confidence heading into this weekend.

Q

So with that being the case, is there a genuine feeling that an elusive title is within reach?

A

The boys have come close to achieving it in the past but they haven’t quite been able to get there … if we do things right, there is no reason why we can’t get the result.

Q

I’ll give you a tough one to finish on ... who is the best player in the comp?

A

I’ll be honest with you. I actually don’t know any of the players that play for the other teams. I have only been focused on what we do. (For us), the three Finigan boys (Sean, Steve and Jack) are probably the main guys that we look to.

The other one is Te Ari (Mahuri) who plays nine or 10, he has a good skill set and he knows the game extremely well so he is going to be a key man for us moving into finals.
