SNIPER’S REPORT

-

GC UNITED CHECK

Gold Coast United made the first move heading into the NPL season in 2019 by signing Kristian Rees as their head coach. They have put the Gold Coast Knights on notice but can the Knights play a checkmate move? You will find discussions with multiple players within both squads at an all-time high within the next few weeks. A busy off-season looms for both NPL clubs.

PALMY HAVE NO FRIENDS

No matter how unsuccessful Palm Beach have been in recent times locally, they are still the most disliked club on the Coast. I was waiting for an alleged “friend” of theirs this week but he must have got lost somewhere along the way. The key to good reporting is consistency, something Palm Beach lacked in 2018 and will lack in 2019 barring some really major moves.

WARRIORS BE WARNED

Although Southport lost the playoff against Mudgeeraba last weekend, they still might feature in the Premier League come 2019. It seems as though we are a week or two away from finding out the outcome for senior football for one of the teams that was supposed to be competing in the Premier League.

SHOCK OR STANDARD?

Was Southport not making the Women’s Premier League final this weekend a shock or expected? After a disappointing season in their eyes, the Warriors will be watching from the sidelines as Robina and Broadbeach do battle at Nikiforides Park come tomorrow afternoon. But this wasn’t a shock, it was coming all season.

RIP MERRIMAC

We are set to lose one of our oldest clubs on the Gold Coast in Merrimac FC for good. It is disappointing what has happened there and it shows the constant battles that their committees faced for years had finally come to a tipping point. There is nothing more that can be done, except remember what the club was at its height.
