Boyce’s bullish hopes
FORMER Queensland legspinner Cameron Boyce has returned to Brisbane and will captain Toombul in Premier Cricket this summer.
Boyce headed to Tasmania two years ago after being eclipsed by Mitchell Swepson as the state’s top-ranked four-day bowler but failed to make the impression he craved.
Though his outstanding form as a Twenty20 tweaker won him seven games for Australia, Boyce is averaging almost 50 per first-class wicket since making his interstate debut eight years ago which means he is primarily seen as a white-ball specialist.
Boyce will play in this season’s Big Bash for the Melbourne Renegades but will be available for 50-over games for Queensland.
Toombul will host University of Queensland in the first round of the Kookaburra OneDay competition today at their home ground, Ken Mackay Oval.
Today’s matches will feature a large contingent of experienced players hungry for match practice including Valley duo Mark Steketee and Luke Feldman who will travel to the Sunshine Coast to take on the Scorchers.
Former national coach John Buchanan will return to coach club cricket for the first time in 24 years when he guides Wests against Gold Coast Dolphins at Graceville.
Fast bowler Sam Doggett, the older brother of Queensland, Brisbane Heat and Australia A fast bowler Brendan, will resume his Premier Cricket career with Wests after playing first grade in Sydney for the past season.
Australian Under-19 allrounder Jonte Pattison has relocated to Brisbane from Sydney at the urgings of Doggett.
