Tweed’s farewell wish

LONG-TIME Tweed Heads leader Josh Harvey says it would be extra special for his side to clinch the Rugby League Gold Coast title in the final season before they leave the competition.

For years, the Seagulls have been a force during the regular season without being able to convert that form into end-ofyear silverware.

They’re in danger of history repeating itself, having gone from first place after the penultimate round to being 80 minutes from a straight sets exit.

The men from Piggabeen, however, will welcome reinforcements back from their now complete Intrust Super Cup campaign, with Kody Parsons, Rex Johnson, Kirk Murphy and Shaun Carney all having spent significant time in A-grade this season.

Harvey’s former club Tugun – their elimination final opponent today – are riding a wave of momentum after four consecutive wins.

The lock forward says the “keep it simple” approach of coach Kevin Campion will be critical to staying alive in the premiership hunt.

“We have been dropping a lot of ball so we are just focusing on completing our sets,” Harvey, 27, said.

“Tugun always seem to play their best footy around finals

time so you can never write them off.

“But yeah because there is no (Tweed) A-grade next year, I think a lot of us will be going to different clubs and going different ways so it would be pretty special to win the grand final this year.”

The Seagulls recently confirmed they will not enter a RLGC side in 2019 as they follow the model used by many other regional ISC outfits to act as a true representative club for the region.

Tomorrow, Currumbin host Runaway Bay with the first berth in the grand final on the line. While Bay took on Tweed last weekend, the Eagles’ battered squad recovered.

Currumbin coach Ryan Gundry played his cards close to his chest when asked about his line-up other than to confirm standout centre Blake Anderson will return from injury, with several teammates set for fitness tests this morning.

Gundry added there is a “buzz” around Galleon Way with grand final entry within reach for all three senior sides.
