Langbroek told off for post about cleavage

- RYAN KEEN

VETERAN Gold Coast State MP John-Paul Langbroek admits wife Stacey gave him a bit of a telling off for an Instagram post about a woman’s breasts which landed him in hot water.

The LNP Member for Surfers Paradise apologised yesterday and admitted he had been “inapprpropriate” after he posted a breasts emoticon – (.) (.) – to the comments of an Instagram photo featuring a senior government advisor.

Mr Langbroek told the Bulletin he’d deleted the comment promptly but had to cop a verbal from wife Stacey.

“She said to me ‘You’re an old man, you can’t do things like that’,” he said.

“She said ‘A bit silly, you can think it, don’t write it’.”

Mr Langbroek, who is very active on social media platforms Instagram and Facebook as well as Twitter, posted the comment on a photo of government staffers at a Midwinter ball.

It featured Social Services Minister Paul Fletcher’s adviser Brooke Leembruggen in a plunging v-neck ball gown.

Mr Langbroek said he called Ms Leembruggen – whose husband was in the photo alongside her – soon after the controversy became public and he says she told him it wasn’t an issue for her.

“She started following me after that,” Mr Langbroek said, explaining he had seen women post the emoticon on each other’s photos and thought he’d use it. “That’s the dangers of social media. If you are going to be on it, you are going to make a mistake.”

Mr Langbroek said he wouldn’t stop being prolific on social media believing it was an important tool for politicians.

“You can’t think too carefully about everything you put up. We can’t consult a committee every time we post something.

“...Particularly with my electorate, Surfers Paradise, people want someone to express their views on a variety of platforms.”
