- CAMPBELL GELLIE

SHOCKED students yesterday paid tribute to a Gold Coast teenager who died in class from an apparent cardiac arrest.

Tears flowed as youngsters were joined by staff and parents at a memorial to Lucas Millott outside Ormeau Woods State High School.

A stream of stunned students came from their classrooms to post emotional messages of respect for the 15-year-old above a large collection of flowers.

“Words cannot describe how I feel about losing one of my best mates,” one wrote.

“I love Lucas with all my heart and he will never be forgotten. I promise.

“Too young. Too soon.” Another tribute read: “PLEASE COME BACK!”

“I need you more than you even know.

“I hope you are at peace though and I swear I will pray every single day to you, and I will never forget you.

“I LOVE YOU LUCAS.” At one stage, a couple believed to be Lucas’ parents walked through the crowd and placed a photograph of him on the school sign.

The teen died suddenly while in class on Thursday.

Acting principal Dan Finn said the school community was deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of the Year 10 student.

“Our sincerest thoughts and sympathies are with the student’s family and friends at this tragic time,” he said.

“Lucas was an enthusiastic, loving, friendly young man who will be greatly missed by the Ormeau Woods State High School community.

“Support will be provided to students and staff at the school where required, and guidance counsellors will provide additional support for as long as it is needed.

“As a community, we will rally together and can best honour Lucas’ memory by respecting the privacy of his family in this their time of grief.”

Queensland Ambulance Services paramedics were called to he school on Goldmine Rd, Ormeau, around 11.35am on Thursday.

“Upon arrival paramedics located a patient in cardiac arrest suffering from a medical condition,” a QAS spokesman said.

He said bystanders provided CPR and the teenager was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, but died later.
