Business suits were swapped for wetsuits

-

BUSINESS suits were swapped for wetsuits at Duranbah yesterday as more than 60 surfers in 16 teams hit the waves for the annual Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific Corporate Surf Challenge.

Staff from more than 12 companies took part in the event, which raises funds to help improve the living conditions of people with facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD), a highly complex progressive muscle wasting disease that affects the lives of adults and children.

“Now in its eighth year, we are very proud to host this annual event, which provides a way for the business community to come together while supporting the important work of the FSHD Global Research Foundation. It’s a board meeting like no other,” said Ross Nicholas, senior vice president of public, communications and corporate marketing.”

Collectively the teams had raised more than $11,000 before the event had even started and hoped to add another $5000 to the total.

Seven-time world champion Layne Beachley joined surfers from Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific, Hawaiian Airlines, Stellar Recruitment, Cervus Private Wealth, ICE Cruises, Multiplex Australasia, RCI, Bespoke Interior Solutions, Beniki Finance, MPD Tophats, Bistech and Surfing Life for the event.

Members of the winning team received a custom surfboard and return flights to Hawaii were auctioned on the day also.
