WOOD HAS HIS HEAD IN THE GAME

-

SUPERCARS larrikin Dale Wood wanted a helmet that would reflect his colourful character; the Gold Coastbased designer known by the alias “Antman” delivered.

Wood, a one-time podium finisher at Winton, will wear the helmet when he codrives for Brad Jones Racing alongside Tim Blanchard at the Gold Coast 600 next weekend.

The 35-year-old explained the design was his lifestyle personified.

“Antman has done helmets for me, we have formed quite a relationship over the past six or seven years,” Wood said.

“For this one, I was stuck for ideas and we got yakking on the phone one day.

“We were mostly just having a chat about general life and we started talking about my next helmet.

“I just said I wanted to do something different. I want to sketch something. I want it to be fun, I want it to be a bit like I like to live my life, a little bit out there and having fun.

“A bit of wakeboarding and motorbiking and BMX, all that sort of thing and then a dirty big bird (middle finger) to anyone that stands behind me.

“He loved it because Ant’s a traditional sketch artist. It’s really what he loves doing and he never gets that opportunity to do it so I trusted him to scribble something up and he nailed it.

“I just love the fact that it is different to what anyone else has got out there.”

Wood and Blanchard finished 18th in the Bathurst 1000. As well as racing Supercars, Wood will be in action at the Gold Coast in the Porsche Carrera Cup series.
