FEELING lucky?

Gold Coasters have the opportunity to take home up to $200,000 this weekend at Southport Sharks and play against one of the biggest international poker players.

But if you think you won’t stand a chance, think again.

American poker player Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi, ranked 19th in the world, says he always tries to play to his opponent’s level.

“Sometimes I don’t play too advanced as not everyone is at the same level as me and it can cause me to lose,” he said.

“I always try to think and play at my opponent’s level.”

Tournaments run for about eight hours a day, ending at 10pm.

Mr Mizrachi won $5000 yesterday against Australian player Joe Hachem and expects to take home another $40,000 today and tomorrow.

Mr Mizrachi arrived on the Coast on Thursday morning and apart from playing poker, he’s been getting out and enjoying the Coast.

“This is my first time in Australia and the Gold Coast feels just like home in Miami,” he said.

“The nightlife is a bit soso, but I love it here during the day.”

On Monday he leaves to visit Melbourne for a couple of days before heading home.

More than 4000 people are expected to play poker this weekend, about 700 of them from Australia.

To be a part of the action, register on the day at Southport Sharks.
