WHY THE COLTS MIGHT STRUGGLE WITHOUT MVP

Coomera look set to lose their main player and one of the best players in the league, William Asante.

It has been confirmed that Asante (if he is to return to the Gold Coast) will try and play at a higher level if he does come back. I find it difficult to see Coomera making any inroads and push for a top four spot without their main man.

GC NPL MERRY-GO-ROUND

With the two NPL franchises in full swing and some signings made by both, could we possibly see some players jump back on their previous ships before a ball is even kicked? I have a feeling that players that have aligned with either the red or yellow side of town may have felt they committed to early and are considering a move back to their previous clubs. Interesting times ahead.

IS PATIENCE REALLY A VIRTUE?

The old saying patience is a virtue will come to light this season on the Gold Coast with a number of teams eager to see their commitment to young players come to full fruition. The likes of Palm Beach, Mudgeeraba, Nerang and Tweed are some of the teams hoping that their young cores can pull through and get timely results. We haven’t seen teams with a predominantly young core light up the league in a long time, but the window is closing for early success for some of these clubs.

SINK OR SWIM

When you look around the leagues on the Gold Coast, it is safe to say that times are changing and younger coaches are now being hired almost immediately after playing or while they are still playing. Excluding a few elder statesmen across the board, the head coaches of our clubs are made up of relatively young mentors starting out. Some have had better playing careers than others but 2019 will prove to be a season of truths.

We will get a clear reflection on a number of questions we have asked for years from certain individuals.

Will the newcomers sink or swim? I have a good feeling that for the most part, they will swim.
