WINS KEY TO FUTURE
Q
As for yourself, what ambitions do you have personally as a coach?
A
I still want to coach professionally. Just for me at this point, it’s a good place to be with my kids’ schooling and that type of thing so that has probably become an equal a priority as my coaching ambition. Having been offshore, having had a taste for coaching professionally, it’s certainly something that I want to get back to in the long-term but I certainly understand that achieving some success here will help me do that.
Q
The relationship between Bond and local clubs has often been a talking point but it seems to be very much on the right track now?
A
Absolutely. When you look at the landscape of rugby on the Gold Coast, there’s (a lot of competitions) and I think Bond University isn’t in competition to any of them.
It should be done to complement them ... we need to work closely, we need to make this the aspirational club of choice for everyone on the Gold Coast.
Q
Should having a good relationship with The Southport School too be a focus, given their production line of talent?
A
If we can get the nucleus of that team coming through our colts program each year, then that filters through to the premier grade side and that’s important.
If the nucleus of this side is Gold Coast-centric, then that is not only sustainable long-term but it helps foster and build a commitment to the program that will achieve success.
